Abstract

Muslim personal law is mired in controversies, and political parties reap political benefits, with reforms done without consultation with Muslim women. The Supreme Court of India has agreed to re constitute a Constitutional Bench for validity of Nikah halala and Polygamy after retirement of two judges. In this article, I will examine the unislamic practice of Nikah Halala, media portrayal, and I argue that the Quran talks about the concept of Intervening marriage without pre planned divorce. Media has described Nikah Halala as an Islamic practice without any basis from Islamic Law.
