Abstract

Zirconium diboride based ceramic composites reinforced with 20 vol.% MoSi2 particulate, and having 74-98% of theoretical density were produced by pressure-less sintering at 1700 o C for 2 h. The influence of compaction pressure on the mechanical properties and densification of ZrB 2 -20 vol.% MoSi2 composites is investigated in the present study. Results exhibit improvement in Young’s modulus, indentation fracture toughness and hardness by increasing the compaction pressure.
