Abstract
Social media has become a major part of adolescents’ daily lives, raising questions about how its use affects mental health. This scientific review looks at the existing literature regarding the link between social media usage and adolescent mental health while outlining the negative, positive, and conditional consequences of social media. The studies show a connection between excessive social media use and mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, and loneliness. Nonetheless, social media can also help people connect with each other, provide needed support, and communicate in a meaningful way. Therefore, the overall results indicate that there are certain factors affecting these outcomes, such as frequency of use, timing, individual vulnerability, and user activity.
